F1: A Symphony of Speed and Engineering

[1] I am a mechanical engineer, and this is what high end mechanical engineering
    looks like.

[2] F1 is a special engineering exercise. Few places in the world allow
such talented people to compete year round without having to cut corners or
make compromises to the function of the cars cars that are engineered down
to the last bolt. Even as limited as the manufacturers are by the
regulations, we routinely see loopholes and new innovations that raise the
bar for the entire field. The world's biggest and best car manufacturers
(Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault, Lotus, etc.) hire the world's best racing
drivers and engineers to do one thing - go around a track as fast as they
possibly can. If you like racing, then it doesn't get any better.

[3] The history is endlessly fascinating. Throughout the last 75 years, there
have been millions of people who have watched someone win the title and seen
someone fail to succeed in the most painful of times. And every race I
watch, I feel like I see history being made because in 10 years time, they
    will talk about the current.

[4] I watched all of Top Gear around 2013-2017, was a fan of endurance racing
before, and started watching F1 documentaries here and there. I always knew
about F1 since watching Top Gear but never dove in too deep until early
    last year or so.

[5] The 2-3 minutes between the start of the formation lap and the first 3-4
corners of the race almost send this jolt through anyone's spine where you
get excited, tense, and tingly all at the same time. Anticipation is
immense. The whole formation lap with burnouts, tire waving, switch changes,
etc., resembles gladiators sharpening their weapons. Afterwards, the race
start feels like hell is breaking loose with all 20 cars going wheel to
    wheel.

Checkered flag.
