You were good at it” but I make up some dumb excuse about why I got bored. For example, I play chess. I would play for a couple of months, quit, rinse and repeat. I genuinely enjoy the game but I can’t sustain enjoyment. I am not sure if anyone can relate to this but I get bored of everything, way more than the average person. Even things I enjoy get stale quickly. One thing I’ve always struggled with was consistency. Honestly it makes me go WTF? I’ve tried an endless list of things but it seems that nothing really sticks. For me, technology is one of the very few things that seems to stick the most and although I genuinely enjoy it, I have bouts of boredom. Then I come back and it’s fun again. The only possible explanation I could think of is “constant novelty over the internet makes you bored easily with everything!” because novelty is pleasurable. When you’re experiencing something new for the first time, your brain is very stimulated as it tries to process the experience and deal with the new stimuli. There are a lot of ways your brain derives pleasure, however, so if we’re receiving pleasure from some other source (could be drugs or the sheer bliss of laying in a comfortable bed on a cold day) then the feeling of boredom is less pronounced even if the brain isn’t being directly stimulated by some external experience. ________________________________________________________________________________
